What to Buy for the Men in Your Life this Father’s Day
Yes – the big date is looming or if you haven’t been paying attention let us gently remind you that Father’s Day is on Sunday 21st June so it’s time to start thinking about gift ideas for your husband, partner or father. Of course, if you don’t have a time or you find it difficult to conjure up suitable ideas you might find some inspiration in our guide to great Father’s Day gifts right here. It’s important to spoil the men in your life; they really are special and even if they can drive you up the wall and down again – where would you be without them? Except maybe more rested without the snoring, in a tidier house, watching your favourite television programmes without football interruption – ah, but you wouldn’t have it any other way!
THE MILLIONAIRE WANNABE
If you’re a millionaire then you won’t have any trouble finding some great gift ideas to splash the cash! If you’re not a millionaire or even close don’t worry, neither are we but it’s nice to dream and here are a few ideas to make that dream into a reality. You could start with a company like Hunter & Gold, they specialise in luxury cars and hire your husband or your dad a Lamborghini or Porsche for the weekend. Boys love their toys and he’ll enjoy feeling like a prince just for a couple of days.
You could also book him a spa experience (it’s not just for the ladies!) Many men secretly would love to be pampered and certain big brand names such as Clarins and Espa offer men’s facials, massage, pedicures and manicures! There are a number of spas up and down the country (Sopwell House is one, based in St Albans) that offer spa day packages some including 3 treatments for just £179 (Sopwell). While you’re doing that – book it for you too and enjoy some pampering yourself – it would be rude not to!
Another novel idea is booking him a day at the races giving him (and you) the opportunity to dress up for the day, enjoy some rather posh nosh and wander round the enclosure while having a flutter on your favourite horses.
If you want to go to town (literally) get up to London and enjoy the Champagne bar at the Shard – it really is spectacular and we’re not just talking about the views. The highest bar in the whole of London it is a mind-blowing experience with equally mind-blowing cocktails. If you want to bring the children, skip the champagne bar and enjoy Fortnum and Mason’s “Hamperlings” picnic – at £170 for 4 it’s a decadent and delicious afternoon out for the whole family.
FOR THE DASHING DAD
There’s nothing more personal than an exquisite piece of jewellery but while most men don’t wear jewellery with the exception of a wedding ring or a high fashion piece every man needs a good quality pair of stylish cufflinks in their wardrobe. Nothing says you’re special more than a pair of smart sterling silver and amber cufflinks from Monartti Men’s Jewellery collection and with prices ranging from £89 they won’t break the bank but rather be treasured forever. Perfect for your own fabulous Dad or for your husband on Father’s Day.
FOR THE FASH PACK
While on the subject of jewellery some men carry off a cool necklace really well – if your husband is a dedicated follower of fashion or has a rebellious side he’ll love Monartti’s Sharp Amber and Mix Wood Men’s Necklace, it looks effortlessly cool worn with a snug fit t-shirt and baggy jeans, of course he should have the physique to match that tight t-shirt!
FOR ANY DAD
Why not spruce up his drinks cabinet with some barware? This could be a smart new bottle opener, a decanter or even some funky whisky glasses – perfect for that new Japanese whisky he received for Christmas! Perhaps a cocktail shaker and a recipe book to accompany it or a hammered silver wine cooler? Johnlewis.com has some excellent barware ideas – the Alessi ice bucket is something that will be noticed every time it’s used or if you prefer champagne, drop him a hint yourself by buying him the Grunwarg Champagne Bucket and Stand Set at £140.
BUDGET BEST BETS
If you’re on a budget – you can still have a fantastic day as a family. Here are some of our top-rated budget friendly ideas that will leave you with spare change too.
If you would like to get your other half some unique jewellery you could always make your own. There are numerous bead shops in and around the country or buy semi-precious beads online and get your children to help create a funky black beaded bracelet. You can unleash yours and your children’s creativity and spend some time together creating a chic gift.
Let your children further explore their creative side too with some other ideas too. They could make a video for Dad or Grandpa, all you need is someone with a video camera or a tablet to record you all. Create a special message perhaps with props and accessories and record it so it’s captured forever.
The obvious solutions but often the best include creating a gastronomic breakfast in bed for the special man on his big day. Think stacks of blueberry pancakes drizzled with maple syrup, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs on top of a toasted bagel, steaming hot espresso and a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice accompanied by his favourite Sunday newspaper of course! You could even create his own father’s day menu and slip it onto the tray, served with love!
Hopefully we’ve given you some inspiration for gifts for the men in your life – a gift is something from the heart so show him just how much you love him.
